Maintain Your Credentials

With the constant advancement of laboratories and technology, as well as new research and understandings that require best practices to evolve, laboratory professionals must continually learn and adapt. The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) developed the Credential Maintenance Program (CMP) so that professionals stay current and knowledgeable in an ever-changing field.

Credential Maintenance Program

By participating in continuing education, the ASCP BOC CMP ensures that professionals remain current and knowledgeable throughout their careers. In addition to maintaining your professional credential, participating in the ASCP BOC CMP provides opportunities for both professional and personal enrichment.

Expired Credentials

If you have a three-year time-limited ASCP BOC credential and you do not participate in the ASCP BOC CMP before your credential expires, you are no longer allowed to cite the ASCP credential after your name. You may reinstate an expired ASCP BOC credential by completing the CMP and paying the application and reinstatement fees within ten years of expiration. If you have allowed your ASCP credential to expire for more than ten years, you will be required to retake and pass the credential examination to reinstate your credential.

Citation of Credentials

Listing credentials behind your name is an important component of professional identity. ASCP BOC certification credentials are listed with the designation (ASCP) or (ASCPi) after the category, while qualifications do not include this designation. The initials “CM” in superscript follow (ASCP), (ASCPi), or the qualification category for credentials of professionals who successfully complete the ASCP BOC Credential Maintenance Program (CMP).
